Rebecca Thompson is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with an extensive background in emergency medicine and geriatrics. She is a member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association. Rebecca received her master's degree in nursing, family nurse practitioner, and a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from The Sage Graduate Schools in Albany and Troy, New York. She began her nursing studies at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, where she earned her baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Rebecca knew from a very young age that she was meant to be a caretaker. After attending "career day" in middle school, she knew she wanted to go into the medical field. This was the first time she was exposed to different areas of medicine. She always knew she would be helping others somehow in her career, and becoming a nurse practitioner has been the perfect choice. Without a doubt, Rebecca's favorite part of her job is her patients! She believes learning about the patient as a whole is imperative to treat them effectively. Rebecca thinks it is extremely important to understand and support each individual patients' desired outcome and chosen treatment plan. As a family nurse practitioner, she is here to listen, support, and guide treatment based on her patients' wishes. Rebecca is especially interested in geriatrics and hospital prevention. She has a lot of love to give, and showing patience and compassion with the elderly brings her joy. Rebecca even participates in the annual Alzheimer's and Hospice walks!
Rebecca treats patients based on her philosophy of, "No one knows your body or exactly how you’re feeling better than you." Working in oncology, she has learned that supportive individuals are imperative to the patients' treatment plan, and not everyone wants or needs the same thing. She feels this is important to realize as a provider. She loves seeing her patients achieve their outcomes. This feeling brings Rebecca the most satisfaction working in healthcare.
Rebecca is originally from Virginia but moved to the upstate New York area as a child. Her favorite thing in life is her family and friends! She loves to host in all capacities, whether it's two people over for a BBQ, a pool party in the Summer, or making a meal for 20 people for a large holiday gathering. She loves to make others happy and tends to show it best with food and entertainment! Rebecca enjoys cooking and baking and is always looking for the newest and best recipes to try! She is an old soul, loves to have fun, and loves to learn.
